Austin will have a new basketball team next year, and it is your responsibility to name it. The new Austin NBDL team is having a contest to decide on a team name. I know we can come up with a great name for our new team. All the details are availbe on the new team’s website.

Human Tails? WTF?

Posted in weird on March 28th, 2005 by Mark Ramsey

I came across this website which may very well be the most disturbing thing I have ever seen. Does anyone know someone with a tail? I’d like to see one up close. I wonder if they wag? I hope you enjoy it.

Woke up in Hospital

Posted in 411 on March 28th, 2005 by Mark Ramsey

Last night my friend Doug woke up in a hospital. He had been walking in the park when he had a seizure and passed out. Some good folks out there got him to a hospital and I’d like to thank whoever it was. I talked with Doug this morning, he seems OK and they are gonna run tests. I hope everything is alright Dougie!

Twisted Sister and the Uncola

Twisted Sister

I was watching the boob tube last night and I noticed something strange. Twisted Sister’s “We’re not Gonna Take It” playing during a 7up commercial. Please stop using my childhood rebellion rock bands to sell your products. I know Dee Snider still needs cash for his makeup, but you are sucking the soul out of all of the children of the 80s. I can understand using such tame acts as 38 Special or ZZ Top even. We used to write Twisted Sister on our bookcovers to prove to everyone that we were rebels, and now everything comes crashing down around us. “Is that a Twisted Sister pin, on your uniform!”

Avery’s 3rd in a row gets heated

Dirk shooting over Warriors

The Dallas Mavericks beat the Golden State Warriors Wednesday night 109-97. This was the first time I had a chance to watch the Avery Johnson Era Mavericks. I have been a Mavs fan since they began in 1980, after just moving to the Dallas area, I was 8 years old during their inaugural season. This was the first time a new coach seemed to have a chance taking over a Mavericks team. The Warriors were leading after the 1st Quarter and then things really heated up. Dirk Nowitzki and Baron Davis got into a scrap and were both T’d up and then minutes later Mike Dunleavy was tossed out of the game after sending Dirk to the floor with an offensive foul that could have gone either way. The game had 12 technical fouls. It seemed like the momentum had changed and that the Warriors would have a chance to put the Mavericks away. However Avery Johnson’s tenacious coaching style didn’t allow his team to fold. As the Warriors remained cold with 2 for 23 behind the 3 point line. The Mavericks continued to pour in the buckets to come away with the win. Dirk Nowitzki was once again the team’s leading producer with 29 points and 10 rebounds. The Mavs have now won 4 in a row and Avery starts his official head coaching career with 3 wins, not a bad start.

NBDL Basketball Team Announced

Posted in atx, austin on March 22nd, 2005 by Mark Ramsey

NBDL

According to NBA Commissioner David Stern, Austin will be awarded a NBDL Basketball franchise. The new team (TBA Wednesday March 23) will be playing in the Austin Convention Center during the 2005-2006 season. Fort Worth, Tulsa and Albuquerque also made the list. There have been 34 players from the NBDL that have eventually made NBA rosters since the league began. I have watched alot of NBDL games on ESPN and they are really competitive. This will be a great addition to Austin’s professional sports market. Hopefully, this will be the stepping stone the city needs to eventually support a major professional team.

Gas Hike! How long until lines?

Posted in photos, politics on March 17th, 2005 by Mark Ramsey

Ouch!

Odd or even license plates? Will we have to use ration cards again for gas? It looks like there is no end in sight. Gas has now been spotted over $3 a gallon. Our lives will have to change.
